We did not evolve over millions of years in an urban environment. We evolved in 'the wild', as we call it now. This has implications for our nutrition, as our bodies have evolved to take best advantage of what was available.
With our 'fast-paced, modern lifestyle' much of our food has changed from what our bodies evolved to deal with. We evolved to deal with extracting as much nutrient from fresh food (plant and meat). For the vast history of our evolutionary history we had no way to store food for long. Today food has changed into being more concentrated (such as sugar) or less available (less fresh). Just think about this when you go food shopping. Is your body designed to eat what you are looking at?
There is a difference between food that is nutritious and food that is simply filling.
